Pronunciation Challenge!
みなさん、こんにちは!
Hello everyone!
I have been thinking how I can help you improve how you sound other than providing videos.
Then I came up with an idea!
I'm starting a Pronunciation Challenge this month!
Choose either the beginner or intermediate level, record it, and upload it as a reply to this comment.
The deadline is Monday, June 17th, at 11:00 p.m. JST.
I will provide feedback via video on Tuesday, June 25th, on the Speak Japanese website.
If you are shy about using your name, feel free to post it as “とくめいきぼう(匿名希望),” which means "anonymous."
If you are uncomfortable uploading your recording here, you can send it via email to: fumi@niconico.biz, and request not to use the recording in the video. In that case, I'll send you feedback via email, not via video.
I hope many of you find this idea interesting!
I'd love to listen to your voice. I'm looking forward to your participation!
Here are the sentences you'll read. Please choose Beginner or Intermediate.
Please watch our program, Mastering Phonetics, Part 2-2. "The Rhythm of びゃびゅびょ, and Other Contracted Sounds" to differentiate between びょ and びよ.
【Beginner】
昨日、美容院にいきました。そして今日は、病院に行きました。
(きのう、びよういんにいきました。そしてきょうは、びょういんにいきました。)
"Yesterday, I went to a hair salon. and today, I went to the hospital."
【Intermediate】
今日、病院にいったら、ものすごく混んでて、2時間も待たされました。でもその間に、本をたくさん読めたので、まあよかったです。
(きょう、びょういんにいったら、ものすごくこんでて、にじかんもまたされました。でもそのあいだに、ほんをたくさんよめたので、まあよかったです。)
"Today, I went to the hospital, and it was extremely crowded. I had to wait for two hours.
However, during that time, I was able to read a lot, so I guess it's alright."
まあいいか:It's not the best, but it's okay.
Here's my recording for listening reference.
Here's the PDF for pitch accent and intonation.
ぜひ、チャレンジしてみてください!😄
